Karina Fraser I’m a synesthetic muso. Which means I have a great time painting what I see when I listen to music. So, what is synesthesia? It just means theres a cross wiring of the senses somewhere in the brain. Some people taste or feel stuff in reaction to what they hear or see. I'm lucky, I get colours and images to sound, letters, words and numbers. But I can't tell my left from right. Hey ho. Trained as a graphic artist & photographer, I graduated from the legendary Camberwell College of Arts, London in 2004 having worked under ground-breaking graphic designers such as Gary Mouat, Peter Anderson and design collective, Bump. Instead of going straight into a deadend job bearing no relation to my degree, I was lucky enough to start working within the music industry, creating record covers, promo shoots, merch design and the odd music video. So, thats great work, but I was prompted to explore my fine art skills purely through my true love of music and that stuff I see when I listen to it. Push forward a few years and I’ve happily created a grand mess, exhibited throughout the UK and across the pond in San Francisco and have regular commissions coming in. You can take a look at more of my stuff at my online gallery www.galleries-online.co.uk/karinafraser and www.facebook.com/PaintMyBand Email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Kelly Boyle The Strummercamp Artshow is delighted to have Kelly Boyle with us in 2014. Here's what she has to say about herself and her artwork. "As an artist I am free to create my own life force. Crafting spontaneous drawings using ballpoint pens, which enables me to capture the essence of the moment in its truest form. I draw in all situations as the diversity of environment is essential but I'm happiest at gigs, generally in a meditative state, each pen stroke produced in time with the beat. "The eyes are the soul of my work; they give it life, enabling me to passionately connect with each piece. The emotion of the faces represents my emotion at the time they’re created. "I believe that everything we see, feel or have around is balanced by contrast. There are multiple contrasting factors in my work, whether it is colours, patterns or shapes. My basic artistic concept is always to achieve balance over perfection." |
